Oh Look, A T-Shirt

I got beckoned to the boss's office yesterday afternoon.  Mind you I was in the middle of month end related activities.  The reason?  Here's a T-shirt.  Fine.  Really?  I had to stop my work to come pick up a T-shirt.  With a nifty company logo and something about safety on the front chest area.  Fine.  Nice.  I'm not wild about printed t-shirts at this point in my adulthood.

And I'll be honest - I tend to toss most corporate printed crap given to me after I leave a company.  There are some exceptions.  The really nice jacket with the Brand Name embroidered on the chest (good quality, and embroidery not crappy screen print),  Also a collection of coffee mugs from the same employer.    The very nice ink pens and padfolio I received at the last job (good quality).  But most of the t-shirts etc get tossed/donated.

From the current employer I have a recently given to me water bottle (really I didn't need another water bottle - can we stop giving me water bottles and commuter cups?), I have a coffee mug that I've never put anything in because the paint quality (you can see brush strokes) is such that it squicks me out a bit to think about drinking from it.   2 Long sleeved t-shirts.  (Freudian slip - I initially typed that as t-shit).   Let's talk about the concept of long sleeved t-shirts.  I can wear these only part of the year.  Because you know July in Mid-Mo is such the time for a long sleeved t-shirt.   2 -t-shirts from reach X number of steps in X week challenges.  Yipee.  Oh, wait, another water bottle I forgot about.  (told you I don't need any more).  A Mizzou/company yellow shirt (and as a Jayhawk luvin KU Alumni it goes against principle to wear Mizzou gold) T with Team CompanyName on the front and my last name on the back (because yes I want people to identify me while I'm out and about) that I have worn exactly once to a 'team' lunch event for which I skipped the team activity.  And now this one.

Know what I am not wearing today?  Even though it is casual Friday?  Yup - the T-shirt issued yesterday.  Why?  I don't like looking like everyone else.  I don't like matchy matchy twinsies.  And I thought - new shirt, everyone will wear it.  I've not ventured far from my desk and have seen 2 already.   (Twinsies note - my sister and I are 2 years apart and Mom had a habit of sometimes buying the same dresses etc for us.  This habit later changed to buying us the same shirt or sweater but in different colors.  If we happened to wear the same shirt (in different colors) as teens - one of us changed.  Neither had the desire to look like the other).

In other news I get the honor and privilege of being recruited for a super sekrit don't talk about it (there are issues) project next week.  meaning I have to travel.  with the platform controller.  Oh joy.

Don't forget to wear your new T-shirt!

BTW a valid excuse if asked is that you're washing it first

I am considering wearing the shirt on Monday - which is a travel day and therefore it doesn't matter what I wear.  Tuesday through Friday I need to be in appropriate attire.  Saturday is also a travel day and I can wear whatever.

By self-imposed declutter/de-horde rules recently put into place.  The arrival of a new shirt means an old one needs to go to the donation pile (or rag bag).

I think your declutter/de-horde rule is also a good way to respond to unwelcome donation items: "My rule says 'new one in, old one must go' but I'm not ready to get rid of any of my current ones, therefore I can't keep the new one, sorry!"

I did find a good in-between solution recently -- a friend of mine was down to two raggedy T-shirts and needed a few new ones.  He had asked me to see what I could find at the thrift store next time I went to next-biggest town.  Instead I pulled 3-4 excess from my own drawer, including one I had never even worn before.  Bonus is that because we are friends I will get to see them being worn!

PS -- is it bad that I don't know if a "platform controller" is a device or a person? :my_tongue:

Person but don't tempt me on the device aspect.  It also means you do not speak bean counter.  (it is my boss's boss's boss).

Well in that case I think wearing the shirt during travel is a good strategic idea!

You're right I don't speak bean counter.  Concepts, yes -- bureaucracy and terminology, no.  My first mental image when you said platform controller was something like this:

And since you are traveling all week, darn it!  You left it in the hotel/taxi.   Perhaps someone at your travel destination would love a new shirt.  :)

Or TSA stole it (if you're flying)!

I really think it depends where you live as to what attitudes people have towards kids. I always felt really insecure about having my kids in public in Southern Ontario (where mega families were common) because people were unbelievably judgy about how they behaved and my parenting in general.

Then we moved to downtown Montreal, where having more than 1 kid was considered a big family, and everyone is just so kind and supportive and encouraging. No one batted an eye at them. I swear that’s why we moved here.

I feel like they're just regular old Fall family portraits...it's that time of year! All my clients are getting on the books for their Christmas card photos now too. At first I thought maybe an announcement based on the bear with pink ribbon, but I actually think it's more possible that is just to honor the loss they had. I can't imagine they'd give that much away prior to a big announcement. I could be wrong though.

My bet is it's all for show so they're not changing anything.  After all, these people side hugged their own kids.

Catch me up on the Bradrick family? Are they the ones that had a daughter in law wear a yellow wedding dress?

Bradrick! and wife #1 Kelly were the darlings and the couple-of-the-year and marriage of the year  amonst the Vision Forum elite.

Kelly and Bradrick! proceeded to quickly have six children before the perfect marriage imploded and Kelly sued for divorce, based on...nobody knows for sure.  I

n the meantime,  Vision Forum had imploded because Doug Phillips was exposed as a sexual predator;  the Vision Forum gravy train left the station and left Bradrick! high and dry.  The young couple headed to the Pacific Northwest where Bradrick!'s family lives and Bradrick! became a realtor.  There's a classic photo of Kelly pregnant and maybe even barefoot, standing on the deck outside their mobile home on a damp day, surrounded by very young children. She looked so...over it.

Bradrick! stayed in the Pacific Northwest and Kelly and six kids flounced home to daddy Scottie Brown and then she married the current husband.

I always wonder if Kelly is happily remarried or if she just said yes to the first guy who would take on 6 step kids.

I think she unenthusiastically said yes to the first man Scotty Brown (not/never father of the year) convinced/ coerced to take her and the 6 step kids.

I never got a positive vibe from that match.  The guy was a (I think) 30-something never married head master of a Xtian school.

Yeah, I'm sure it was a match made by Scotty Brown and never Kelly's choice.  I wonder if Bradrick! will get the call that Kelly is sending one or more of the kids to live with him.  I hope the kids at least get to visit Bradrick! in the summers.
