Like nothing happened...

This morning as I was getting ready to leave for work and noticed the door to downstairs was shut, which is unusual.  (We have a split foyer house so there is a door at the bottom landing leading into downstairs.)  I go down to leave for work (door to the garage is off the family room) and who comes bounding quickly up the stairs past me heading straight for his food bowl?

Griff yelled at him once and hid under the bed - I picked Sham up to make sure he was okay and uninjured as the kids (all were still home) came flying out of their rooms in various states of getting ready for school/work....and as everyone is trying to pet him he meows at me in a kind of bitchy tone and leaps out of my arms to get to food.  We were allowed to pet him as long as he could keep eating.

Seriously - the look he gave me and the clipped little meow was so "what is all the fuss about, will you knock it off and let me eat?"  If cats could roll their eyes in annoyance he so would have.

(It's not like I was preventing him from eating - this all happened in the space of seconds and I wanted to make sure he was in one piece and didn't need a trip to the vet.)

Anyway, turns out one of the boys had been out looking this morning and left the patio doors open on purpose just in case he came back.  That's why he closed the door to downstairs - to keep the other kitties safely upstairs.  So apparently he just wandered in from whatever bender he was on and came home like it's nothing.

I had to leave for work so as of when I left he was chowing down on wet food, kids were loving on him, and Griff was hiding under the bed recoiling from his brother smelling like the outside he so fears now.  (I'm assuming - who knows what he was thinking.  Maybe he was just pissed at his brother for all the worry.)

He looked like he'd never left.  Coat perfectly clean, smells good (like clean cat), eyes bright.  I would think someone had taken him in, but then he wouldn't be so hungry.  I did assume at first he had access to water wherever he was because he went to town on the food and ignored the fresh water bowl...but I don't know how long he was downstairs.  Could have been as much as half an hour or so and we have water bowls there so who knows.

Mr. Buffy's theory was that he'd been inadvertently shut up in a neighbors shed or garage and he went to every house in a couple block radius to give out flyers and ask them to look in their sheds/garages - but no dirt/oil on his fur although maybe he was in Monk's garage.

Anyway - I'm DYING to know where he has been.  Was he sitting there listening to us call and his brother cry and make heartbreaking noises like I've never heard before and didn't come home?  (and I know when cats are lost and scared their brains go primal and they see even loved ones as threats and their instinct is to become invisible.  But my heart still pouts that it's different with us and he should have known that ...but I digress.)

Oh and before all this getting lost business happened Shadow had a bath...

Completely not relevant to the topic...but she wanted to say hi.

Hi Shadow! Glad Sham is home, typical cat not giving a damn about all the worry he has put you through. Hope Griff isn't too traumatized by the outdoor smells and they get back to being best buds soon.

It's great that Sham-Wow isn't hurt or anything, but I hope he's being appropriately loving and clingy after putting y'all through all that fuss and worry.  "Hi" to beautiful Shadow! She doesn't look especially thrilled about her bath, but that's pretty normal for a cat. She has a very photogenic glare. :my_biggrin:

Yay!! I am delighted for you! We had a cat turn up like nothing had happened an entire year after she had gone astray.  Shadow is beautiful.

I got about 6 minutes sleep last night because apparently he slept all day recovering from his ordeal (as opposed to sleeping just most of the day because...cat) and was wide awake all night biting my hair and licking my eyebrows so I'd wake up and keep petting.

I had to log into the server at work at 3:21 am and he kept smacking at my iPad and logged me off.

Not complaining - I'll take awful eyebrow licking to worry any day.

And no - she didn't love her bath but she forgave me pretty quick. :)

Love that picture of ShamWow on his back, looking all froggie.  Are those his canines (felines?) peeking out from lips?

That's wonderful news!

Also, cats are jerks when they won't even tell you what they've been doing.  Come on sham wow,  we all know you can speak English.  You're just choosing to be secretive ;)

I really think it depends where you live as to what attitudes people have towards kids. I always felt really insecure about having my kids in public in Southern Ontario (where mega families were common) because people were unbelievably judgy about how they behaved and my parenting in general.

Then we moved to downtown Montreal, where having more than 1 kid was considered a big family, and everyone is just so kind and supportive and encouraging. No one batted an eye at them. I swear that’s why we moved here.

I feel like they're just regular old Fall family portraits...it's that time of year! All my clients are getting on the books for their Christmas card photos now too. At first I thought maybe an announcement based on the bear with pink ribbon, but I actually think it's more possible that is just to honor the loss they had. I can't imagine they'd give that much away prior to a big announcement. I could be wrong though.

My bet is it's all for show so they're not changing anything.  After all, these people side hugged their own kids.

Catch me up on the Bradrick family? Are they the ones that had a daughter in law wear a yellow wedding dress?

Bradrick! and wife #1 Kelly were the darlings and the couple-of-the-year and marriage of the year  amonst the Vision Forum elite.

Kelly and Bradrick! proceeded to quickly have six children before the perfect marriage imploded and Kelly sued for divorce, based on...nobody knows for sure.  I

n the meantime,  Vision Forum had imploded because Doug Phillips was exposed as a sexual predator;  the Vision Forum gravy train left the station and left Bradrick! high and dry.  The young couple headed to the Pacific Northwest where Bradrick!'s family lives and Bradrick! became a realtor.  There's a classic photo of Kelly pregnant and maybe even barefoot, standing on the deck outside their mobile home on a damp day, surrounded by very young children. She looked so...over it.

Bradrick! stayed in the Pacific Northwest and Kelly and six kids flounced home to daddy Scottie Brown and then she married the current husband.

I always wonder if Kelly is happily remarried or if she just said yes to the first guy who would take on 6 step kids.

I think she unenthusiastically said yes to the first man Scotty Brown (not/never father of the year) convinced/ coerced to take her and the 6 step kids.

I never got a positive vibe from that match.  The guy was a (I think) 30-something never married head master of a Xtian school.

Yeah, I'm sure it was a match made by Scotty Brown and never Kelly's choice.  I wonder if Bradrick! will get the call that Kelly is sending one or more of the kids to live with him.  I hope the kids at least get to visit Bradrick! in the summers.
