I need to buy me some new shoes

This week I have accomplished something great, HUGE even:

I have finally found shoes that don't make my little toes feel like they somehow missed their amputation appointment.

Color - check
Ease of purchase - check
Ability to reorder 1000000 pairs at once - near check (I actually want to wear them a bit more first to make sure they'll hold up ok).
No attack of the allergies while shopping - check
NO squished painful toes! - CHECK!

You have no idea how happy I am about this. YEARS and MANY shoes of attempted this made me wonder if it might be impossible without emptying my bank account. Apparently it IS possible. YAY! I'm so happy. I once found a pair of shoes when I was really desperate that were good, except they were something like 5 times my budget at the time which wasn't really possible.

So, long live internet shopping and long may I be able to purchase shoes with free return, and no import taxes.

(and may internet shopping greatly improve. I got my feet scanned so I could find out what shoes would fit best and the damn thing won't even tell me that. I have to look at each individual shoe *sigh* At least the scan did inform me that I have WIDE feet, and thus I'm not imagining that ;) )

The search for work/formal shoes/boots continues. I ordered some 'wide' ankle boots online. People complained in the reviews that they were too wide. I try them on and was so terribly terribly saddened. I'm not sure how much foot binding those reviewers did in their youth, but those boots made me want to get rid of 2 full toes spread over 3 toes, on each foot. They were NOT wide enough. I guess the bonus was I could actually squeeze my feet into the boots. There have been times in the last five years and the 100s or possibly 1000s of shoes/boots tried on, where it just wasn't possible to do that.

And I guess while I talk about footwear, it's time I got some new gardening shoes. I don't know what I want, or how to find cheap enough footwear that'll fit, is sturdy enough and won't get full of dirt every time I step outside (ok ok, today it was manure and dirt)

Then I might need some gumboots , and I'll be sorted for the next 20 years. One may dream right?

Inquiring minds wants to know...what shoes did you get exactly?

I have the hardest time finding good shoes. I am currently on a boot search and it's not going well.

Congratulations, @OnceUponATime! The search for shoes is so frustrating sometimes. :my_dodgy:

@ClaraOswin, good luck on your boot search.

I got some gift cards recently, so I will be joining y'all in the search for a decent pair of boots. My ankle boots have finally reached the point that I'm a bit embarrassed to wear them. I really hope that the store my gift cards are for has some boots that are flats (why would I want a heel on boots that I want to wear in cold and slippery conditions? I'm not a fashionista!), wide enough, and not too weird looking. I'm just not thrilled by the ones that have 7 decorative buckles and other extra things that just look strange to me.

@ClaraOswin New balance. they're black, don't ask me which type. one that came in the wide size :D

@WhatWouldJohnCrichtonDo? I feel your pain about boots. i'm fed up with my current 'formal'ish shoes because i keep finding that some toenails fall off after i wear them. So once my credit card recovers after the last shopping spree i'm going to order some more.

My boot criteria - wide toe area, super low or no heel, decent padding/support in the sole. I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg. I just want something comfortable that I can wear with jeans, basically. The boots I've been wearing the last few years were not super comfortable but I found them on clearance at Kohl's for $11...haha. For the price, they were pretty good.

I got some new ones at Kohl's recently. They were pretty comfortable in the toe area. But I wore them around the house a bit and decided the heel was just too hard (and maybe a smidge too tall.) Normally I would just stick some insoles in but I tried that and they didn't fit right.

I thought they were cute though so I'm sad that I had to return them. http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-2644981/sonoma-goods-for-life-womens-buckle-ankle-boots.jsp?color=Gray

Those would be cute with dress pants...but I can't wear heels anymore. Flats only :(

I hear ya about the wide feet thing.  I am currently thrilled to bits because I finally found some summer sandals to replace my old disreputable ones.  Sandals that are wide enough for ALL of my toes!   No baby toe clinging on for dear life outside the straps. And I bought 2 pairs (different colours) so I am good for next summer and the one after that (because I care not if I am at the cutting edge of fashion.)

And @WhatWouldJohnCrichtonDo?, your comment about the freakish 7 extra buckles on the boots made me think of the conversation that runs through my head every single time I shop for clothes. I go around the store looking at stuff, thinking to myself, "WTF? Just put down the bedazzler people, I'm a grown woman,  why would I want so many sparkles/strange pleather  appliqués /weird cut out areas etc. on my ass/chest/shoulders ?"

and who the hell wants little bows on EVERY bra between the breasts? what's with that? and tag placement can they please make them easier to remove? 90% of the time all the details have smudged off within 3 months so it's not like they are useful.

And no my shoes do not need to be highlighter colored. and I don't want to wear drab colors during the fall/winter. the sky is depressing enough without having to match my clothes to it too

The most tense place I have ever been is a Holocaust Museum where several people were being disrespectful and a brawl broke out right next to me. This was maybe the 3rd HM we have visited. I told my husband that’s enough. No more of those. I know what happened and have seen enough.

I work at a library and I can tell you that no one behaves the way they used to, especially the kids. We are supposed to let them just be themselves, meanwhile sometimes it is a circus. I'm so glad I don't work in the public area anymore because it used to get me so angry. If you let them run around and do what they want, how are they going to behave elsewhere? And what will happen when they get older? How can they learn? Now, I'm not saying we need absolute silence but there are people who are trying to study and like the library as a quiet and peaceful place.

The worst case of this was at Anne Franks house 2 years ago. Everyone respectfully murmurs - same as in a library. A group of high school aged children were running through the rooms and watching stuff on mobile phones with the volume on. Not one teacher said anything. They were there!
A few visitors did have a word with them. Things didn’t improve though.

Whatever the results were for the recent scan...if it was showing the cancer shrinking to nothing, they'd be shouting the good news from the rooftops, right?

My recent experiences with MRI were that the results were read by the radiologist and posted in the patient portal within a day or two and I assume other scans would be equally speedy.

Shalom posted an Instragram story: "Microbiom[e] plays a role in healing from cancer"

@Columbia, thanks for digging up that account! I remember that depressing saga as if it had happened yesterday. IMO, Bradrick! has many, many miles to go before he's able to redeem himself.
