Hey Life,,,Back Off!
Last Sunday morning minutes after waking up I brought one of my sons to ER.
One ruptured appendix, torn colon, major abdominal abscess, case of severe peritonitis, paralytic ileus/non-mechanical obstruction of the small bowel*, and week of abject fear later we're finally home.
This is why crazy high pain tolerance is scary. Because he felt nothing until some flu like symptoms hours before...until all the pain he didn't feel before came home with a vengeance.
Young adult nothing...when he's lying there in agony he might as well still be my toddler in airplane pajamas and Cookie Monster slippers.
The nursing staff and CNAs were so incredible if I were wealthy I'd buy them all diamond tiaras. Hell, I'd buy them all diamond houses. As it is I'll have to settle for finding out to whom I need to send my letter of immense gratitude for their work so their powers that be know how great they are. Whoever staffed that place deserves a Nobel Prize.
He's happy to be home and away from beeping IV pumps, JP drains, and way too many strangers desperate to know about his adventures in gas passing....but damn it is impossible for him to get comfortable lying down. My kingdom for a hospital bed, such handy little things.
*a post for another time when I have more energy to rant.
