Back In The Home Improvement Saddle Again....

I managed to pull myself away from the never ending drama of the presidential election long enough to finish the decoupage floor in our new bedroom.

Circus Act is pretending to be a professional kitty model for y'all. :pb_lol:

I wanted the look of reclaimed wood, but the real deal was more than I wanted to spend at this time.

You can tell it's not a real wood floor when the light hits it the right way, but a real wood floor for this room will have to wait for now.

As for the room itself, I still need to get a window air conditioner installed, stain, cut, and install a transition strip, cut and reinstall a small section of baseboard to fit around said transition strip, make new curtains, buy and install a French door, and figure out what to do about the padded seat for the bay window. All of these projects will be done over time, and I can't do the air conditioner and French door all by myself.

The previous owners had a piece of foam cut to size for the bay window, and had a white cover made to fit. The white cover desperately needed washing, so I took a gamble that it wouldn't shrink, and I lost. I'm trying to decide if I should cut the foam into three pieces and reuse the existing cover for two of them, or just make a whole new cover for it. In the meantime, I have a very heavy window curtain I made for the last place we lived ( think comforter with a curtain attached to the front), folded up in the bay window so the kitties have a soft bed to snuggle into while they keep an eye on the neighborhood.

Miss Thing votes that we keep things as they are, no more changes! :pb_lol:

That is AMAZING!  You did a beautiful job, I would never even think of something like that.  I'm jealous of your talent.

as long as kitty doesn't vote with her bladder you're all good :)

@Cartmann99, your floor is beautiful!  I'd read about paper floors in an article in Yankee a few years ago so I was familiar with the concept, but this is fantastic!  Too bad the floors we need to redo aren't good for paper floors.

Thank you.   Mine is technically cardboard, but you use the same techniques as the paper bag and paper plank floors.

Wow!!!  Your floor is beautiful, @Cartmann99!  I have not heard of this before. I really love it.

Thank you.  I really hated the vinyl peel and stick tile that was in this room originally.

When I was starting the search for flooring for our renovation, I went to the nearby Lumber Liquidators.  One of their "longest wearing" floors was vinyl planks which was rated to last 100 years.  One of the samples that had was peeling!  Nope, that flooring is off the list.  I'll likely go with wood-look porcelain tile since it's the kitchen.

I've been thinking about using some of that wood-look tile for our bathroom. I've seen some pictures of rooms done with it that I really like.

I'm still deciding what to do for the kitchen floor. Tile is so nice in that you don't have to worry about water, and it lasts a long time, but it hurts my back when I stand on it too long. I guess I'll just keep looking to see what options are available in our price range as we get closer to that project.

My two choices for our kitchen flooring are that tile and cork planks.  Cork is much kinder on the feet and legs than porcelain, but it might be less suitable for a kitchen.

I've thought about cork, but from what I've read, I think I'd probably have to run a humidifier to maintain the humidity levels that cork prefers.

We won't redoing the kitchen floor for a few years, so I have plenty of time to obsess over the available choices.

I was returning a blu-ray last week and walked in the door to hear a guy screaming about "that crazy bitch."  Then security hustled him out the door.  The kids aren't allowed to run or yell either.  It's surprising they are maintaining some standards.

The most tense place I have ever been is a Holocaust Museum where several people were being disrespectful and a brawl broke out right next to me. This was maybe the 3rd HM we have visited. I told my husband that’s enough. No more of those. I know what happened and have seen enough.

I work at a library and I can tell you that no one behaves the way they used to, especially the kids. We are supposed to let them just be themselves, meanwhile sometimes it is a circus. I'm so glad I don't work in the public area anymore because it used to get me so angry. If you let them run around and do what they want, how are they going to behave elsewhere? And what will happen when they get older? How can they learn? Now, I'm not saying we need absolute silence but there are people who are trying to study and like the library as a quiet and peaceful place.

The worst case of this was at Anne Franks house 2 years ago. Everyone respectfully murmurs - same as in a library. A group of high school aged children were running through the rooms and watching stuff on mobile phones with the volume on. Not one teacher said anything. They were there!
A few visitors did have a word with them. Things didn’t improve though.

Whatever the results were for the recent scan...if it was showing the cancer shrinking to nothing, they'd be shouting the good news from the rooftops, right?

My recent experiences with MRI were that the results were read by the radiologist and posted in the patient portal within a day or two and I assume other scans would be equally speedy.

Shalom posted an Instragram story: "Microbiom[e] plays a role in healing from cancer"
