I did upgrade to chipboard instead of Kraft paper, and decided to go for a different look with my planks. I've got seven coats of polyurethane on it, so unless the house gets flooded, it should hold up pretty well for a low traffic area like a bedroom.

@Cartmann99, your floor is beautiful!  I'd read about paper floors in an article in Yankee a few years ago so I was familiar with the concept, but this is fantastic!  Too bad the floors we need to redo aren't good for paper floors.

Thank you.   Mine is technically cardboard, but you use the same techniques as the paper bag and paper plank floors.

Thank you.  I really hated the vinyl peel and stick tile that was in this room originally.

When I was starting the search for flooring for our renovation, I went to the nearby Lumber Liquidators.  One of their "longest wearing" floors was vinyl planks which was rated to last 100 years.  One of the samples that had was peeling!  Nope, that flooring is off the list.  I'll likely go with wood-look porcelain tile since it's the kitchen.

I've been thinking about using some of that wood-look tile for our bathroom. I've seen some pictures of rooms done with it that I really like.

I'm still deciding what to do for the kitchen floor. Tile is so nice in that you don't have to worry about water, and it lasts a long time, but it hurts my back when I stand on it too long. I guess I'll just keep looking to see what options are available in our price range as we get closer to that project. 

My two choices for our kitchen flooring are that tile and cork planks.  Cork is much kinder on the feet and legs than porcelain, but it might be less suitable for a kitchen.

I've thought about cork, but from what I've read, I think I'd probably have to run a humidifier to maintain the humidity levels that cork prefers.  

We won't redoing the kitchen floor for a few years, so I have plenty of time to obsess over the available choices.
