Coloring Supplies ~ Coloring Books ~ Part 1

Curious

As you saw if you looked at my supplies set up post, I have a lot of coloring books.    I'm going to talk about 5 or so at a time so the posts don't get too long.   I really have no idea how many parts this will end up being as a result.    I may mix it up and add some gel pen/marker posts in between, as well.

I really like the Design Originals and Creative Haven books, so that is mostly what I have.  I do have a few others, though.   Let's get started!

Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Animal Designsir?t=frejin0b-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1941325114

This is one of the very first adult coloring books I bought.   It was a nice starter book for me in terms of designs, but when I started out (and still a little bit even now) I want to color animals their proper natural colors.   This leads to some really boring coloring on beautiful designs.   So I have only done 2 pages from this book.   Now that I'm getting more comfortable mixing things up a bit, I need to pull this one back out and try again.   The designs are all one animal per page and there is a good variety of animals included.   The areas to color are easy to do with a sharp pencil or a gel pen.  Thicker markers will probably be an issue for the majority of designs in this book.  Pages are single sided and perforated, so you don't have to worry about bleed through and you can pull them out easily for completion (my preferred method).

I love this book.  I have done 2 pages out of it so far.  My only complaint and it's minor is that the cat is the same on every page.  I solve this by just making the cat a different color every time.   The cat is adorable, which you can see here on the cover.  There are a variety of situations the cat is in, including nature scenes, cityscapes and a set of face cards.   All the designs have quite a lot of detail in them, some of it pretty small..  The pages are single sided and perforated.

I have not colored any pages out of this book yet, but I do really like them.  They are more of a realistic, old style rather than many of the books I have which are a bit more cartoony looking.   All the designs contain some type of animal in a nature scene.   Some of them are quite detailed, but some pages have fairly large areas so there is a good mix.  The pages are single sided and perforated.

I haven't done any pages out of this one yet either (which is actually the case with the majority of the books I have lol).  If you like animals, this is a great book for you.  The designs are all done in a realistic style and it includes a large variety of wild animals and birds.  This one has design areas that are fairly large, but there is still nice detail in each picture.   The pages are single sided and perforated.

This is one of my favorite books.  I've done a few pages out of this one.  There are animals, birds and insects in the designs, along with other nature elements.  The designs have a good bit of detail, but it's not tiny, hard to color areas.  The designs are on the more realistic style side.  The page are single sided and perforated.

If you have specific questions about any of these books, please feel free to ask in the comments.  I'll be happy to dig the book out and answer any questions to help you get the best fit for your style.

I had just ordered new coloring books and then saw your post.  Glad to see that you like Creative Haven because I've got cats, owls, and Day of the Dead ones from them, on the way to me from Amazon.  The nice thing I've found with Amazon is that they'll offer you lower prices for ordering more than one.  Of course, they get to pick which ones, but in this case it worked out.

I have all 3 of those and really like them, so I think your choices are safe ;)   I really like the day of the dead one a lot.  I've probably done the most out of that one.   If you look at my pictures of the day, I have posted a couple that are from that book.

Oh, awesome.  I'll go back and look.  I had seen a few Day of the Dead coloring books at Michael's last week and knew I could do better on pricing if I went through Amazon, and then found that there were so many that looked good! That one looked to be the best though, in terms of reviews.

I recently bought the CH Creative Cats & Naturescapes coloring books and have just begun to try it out.  Am using Prismacolor double-ended and Staedtler triplus fineliner markers.  The Prismacolors seem darker than what I expected them to be and the "Crimson Red" marker looks more like a shade of purple. If anyone is using them, have you noticed this?

I also have the cat coloring book and really like it. The other coloring book I have is this one which I love. The designs have the right level of intricacy and are very symmetrical. :)

@bertnee   I've looked at the books by Angie, but I can't tell enough about them from the amazon page to decide if I want them or not.  I like your description of them though.   I think I'll add that one to my ever-growing wish list.

I just ordered a few of the Prismacolor pens because they are recommended by my favorite coloring book author.   I also ordered a couple copic pens and a few different single colored pencils to give some different brands a try.

I *might* have a little problem with coloring supplies after all ;)

On my way home from work today, I stopped at Michael's and bought $40 worth of individual Prismacolor Premier markers, a Copic marker, and two Winsor-Newton markers.  I think we both have a problem with coloring supplies, though I haven't begun to approach your level of supply inventory.

I was kind of surprised that Michelle wasn’t there. Not that I wanted to see her but she’s local and that is her daughter.

Also pleasantly surprised by the non-mention of modesty, meaning the Duggar’s standards, not mainstream society.  The first one had a tank top bodice with some see-through lace at the waist part so I thought that one may get a comment. I was also a little surpised at the one halter top one.  It was very fitted. But she did look great in every one. Glad she found one she wanted. Good for her for marching to her own best, even if it’s tiny steps.

Grrr.... I waited all week for a new video from Jana and it was a stupid venue/dress video and not a fixer-upper video.  How disappointing!

I found it interesting the JB and Michelle were not along to look at the venue, or that Michelle didn't go dress shopping.  This, combined with the tiny house, pants-wearing, college, etc. make me think Jana has possibly distanced herself from her parents quite a bit more than we may have expected and was really living life somewhat independently.

Anyway, Jana teases they will be back soon with more house updates.  She better deliver and not give us a video of wedding cake taste testing next. ;)

Really worrrisome that Shalom has not posted any updates.  Maybe she's just overwhelmed with their housing situation; I truly, sincerely hope there hasn't been a health crisis.

I watched Jana’s new video. Annoyingly, I had to finish baking before reporting back to y’all. First they visit the wedding venue, which only opened in January. It really is gorgeous. There’s a long, tree-lined driveway before the impressive exterior. Inside, they see the groom’s suite and then the bride’s suite. Both are huge and decorated very nicely. The bridal suite has a line of beauty shop chairs in front of individual mirrors for the bridesmaids, and big changing rooms. Jessa (with George), Abbie, and Joy are with Jana. Everyone oohs and ahhhs. They see the area for ceremonies, which is huge and vaguely cathedral-like, with big windows that flood it with natural light. Jana announces that this is it; they won’t visit any other potential venues.

The bridesmaids tell Jana (who explained this in a later shot) that they’re together and have time, so they need to go wedding dress shopping. (Presumably Michelle and Mrs. Wissmann are over it by now.) So it’s off to the bridal shop, where Jana piles up seven dresses in five minutes, according to Joy. The one she chooses is exactly like the “inspiration” dress photo she brought (which she shows us after selecting the dress). There’s no mention of whatever event led to her having a gown altered the day before her wedding.
