Lori Alexander 84: Stay Away from the Pool

Greetings from Block Island, where I’m on my annual family-and-friends vacation.

I just got back from the beach, where I saw exactly *no* thong bikinis. There was, however, one woman draped head to toe in black Muslim garb. It looked like a burkini with a hijab, face scarf, and cloak over it, made of fabric that looked designed for beachwear.

I’m sure Lori wouldn’t approve of that, either.

I'll be there in two weeks, @Hane! Now that you mention it, I've never seen a thong bathing suit on any New England beach. But, it is definitely colder here, so maybe that's why :)  We've booked our fast ferry tickets and I'm psyched to spend some time with my friends.

Have a great week with your people and I hope your weather is nice.

The number who think it's absolutely A-OK for a girl to marry once she begins her cycle is frighteningly horrifying.

How old is Lori's eldest granddaughter? I think she's a teen. I'm sure neither Lori nor Ken want her married at 15 and being a mother at 16. Their upper-class hypocrisy is what infuriates me the most. It's ok for working people to be poor and marry underage, but the Anderson grandkids will only marry when they will be adults (and probably with degrees).

I've been watching the public IG of the woman who lived with Lori and married the widow preacher with 5 kids. There is a hearbreaking video where she talks about how she is suffering (she's clearly overwhelmed) and her husband tells her that her suffering makes her godly. Apparently, she has to wake up at nights, not him. He doesn't seem to share the duties. I suspect she has to do all the work and can't complain, because *God wants mothers to be like her*. I think she believes it is the right path,  but I wonder if she will wake up. It's one think to dream about a big family and another to become a mother of 5 full time. They only dated for a short time, they married very fast (within several months of dating).

I couldn't avoid thinking that, while she is mothering 5 full time, the friends who wrote about that *romantic love story*, like Alyssa and Tenley, have few kids and are constantly in vacations and girls day out. I have the feeling that they encouraged that marriage but they would never ever have done it.

Thanks, @Caroline! The weather has been perfect so far—sunny and clear and in the mid-70s. There was even a display of aurora borealis Sunday night, but we all slept through it.

Mid-70s sounds a bit chilly for the beach, but with the bright, sunny skies it was pleasantly warm, though the ocean at Fred Benson Town Beach was kind of cold.

Safe travels!

Just had a pang of nostalgia. I grew up in Providence

Isn’t her husband the guy whose first wife committed died at her own hands, or am I confusing things?  Because, if so, he sounded like a real piece of work from the get go. What a mess.

I’ve seen a few on parents at the wading pools and splash pads near me. I’m surprised that people are comfortable with that much skin exposure when the UV index is through the roof but I’m certainly not offended. Both my parents have had bouts of skin cancer and cancer ultimately took my dad’s life so I’m in a rash guard and swim skirt. My kiddo is small for her age so she’s sporting a wetsuit type of bathing suit (toddler ones have snaps at the legs and are cheap. She still wears size 3T).

Yes, that's him. I'm in no way comparing both women's situations, but even Lori said he is difficult. It must be hard to be married with him. Marrying a man with 5 kids should be paired with lots of help, but it's like everybody expected her to immediately replace the late wife like it was easy. 5 kids is a lot for everybody, but people birth/adopt one after another, which gives time to adapt to every kid... Receiving a pack of 5 in a blink of an eye is a completely different story. In the engagement, wedding and other posts comments, nobody seems to realise the extreme hardness, or nobody dares to say it.

Per her IG story, Alyssa has just confirmed that they did, in fact, teach their daughter to swim just the way Lori described.

No floaties, ever, for her kids apparently. They do have a pool now; so I understand the desire to ensure proper swimming skills. However, this move seemed very sudden and, to me, this gives off the vibe of “Oh crap! We gotta teach our kids to swim.”

It is so creepy to me now these people take pride in things that scare their children.

Lori is so pleased today that Jana Duggar stayed home to be a helper for her family until she got married.  So what if she's 34?  So what if she gave Jim Bob 16 years of her life and never got an education or a regular job?  This is what Lori wants -- all women to stay at home until some man rescues them.

I'm fine with Jana waiting to get married and would have been okay with her not marrying at all.  I'm not okay with Lori thinking that it was godly and modest to waste years of her life.

Lori also applauded Jana for not attending college. I guess she didn't hear about Jana making the Dean's List last spring. 😂

Because nothing is ever amusing in the Lori topic.  We live across the street from a small private school and have a big front picture window where we can watch the comings and goings if we want - or just want to avoid the traffic. Last night we were in the living room about 8,  and my guy was playing with the cat.  He looked out the window and saw two people at the school.  He said, "They are both in black leggings and writing on the sidewalk, bending at the waist." I said, are they writing welcome back to school or something?  He said, "I don't know, but I could draw a target with the laser light on their butts from here."  Lori would have been so proud of him.  No, he didn't do it, and yes, he went back to playing laser with the cat.  I ran over this morning and they'd written welcome back to school, and drew some gorgeous flower pictures.  First day of school!  But bad legging wearing women, causing him to stumble!  Or you know, notice and move on with life...

I follow her as well and had the exact same thoughts.  I seem to recall when they first got married I read something on his IG or hers about them perhaps wanting more children. If I recall she is in her early 30s (certainly not over the hill by any standard), but I'm a bit shocked that she hasn't conceived yet.  But I also remember following the pastor's deceased wife (Paige) blog years ago and how she talked about issues with sexuality and how she had a higher drive than him and how to deal with that.  Getting on the speculation bus, I'm wondering if the good pastor just wanted to get a wife to take care of the kids (I think the SIL was helping out after Paige died).  The whole thing seems rushed and weird.   But it fits the narrative -- feelings and emotions don't matter as long as you follow the script.

No, she’s too busy being a sex offender apologist then furiously deleting her posts.

Someone called her out on her convo with this guy (rightly so) and her only reply was: "You support the killing of the unborn!!!1!"

When red pillers say women don’t take responsibility for anything they must mean Lori.

The list of things that women can't/shouldn't do grows by the day according to Lori:

  • have a job
  • talk in church
  • be "contentious"
  • limit the number of children they want
  • have short hair
  • question or disagree with your husband
  • send your kids to school
  • have friends or socialize
  • have any dreams or ambitions beyond marriage and having babies
  • expectations of any kind of your husbands or your marriage
  • NO FEELINGS or EMOTIONS  at any time except "sweetness and joy"
  • drink coffee
  • drink alcohol
  • get your nails polished (toxic you know)
  • read books or watch tv (unless your husband gives you specific approval after deciding it's appropriate)
  • leave the home except for occasional Costco or "health food" store runs and church
  • go to Bible studies
  • wear yoga pants and/or leggings
  • NEW play sports especially basketball which is hard on the knees or any other the sports because the uniforms are skimpy and immodest and everyone knows it's just to create stumbling blocks for men which leads to porn
  • Attend sports events as that is the men's realm (presumably)
  • listen to their doctors when/if it contradicts your husband (doctors aren't "god" after all )
  • breastfeed in public
  • go to the beach or pool lest they be influenced by those evil thong-wearing jezebels
  • get a tattoo
  • get a piercing except in the ears (I'm not sure which Bible verse states the ears are ok?)

Conversely here are the thing women are ALLOWED to do under Lori's rules:

  • grow their hair long
  • wear pretty floral dresses
  • get married at 16, or 18 or in your 20s (she isn't always clear and the number seems to change)
  • have sex with their husbands on demand any time of the day or night
  • cook (but only if it's "nutritious" food from scratch)
  • bake bread
  • sit in the front yard and spy on the neighbors so you can judge them for their lifestyles later online
  • laundry
  • sing in church (but DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TALKING) even though Lori's says that women are commanded to be SILENT in church, but not sure how singing gets a pass?? According to Lori, "that's different"
  • smile -- particularly at your husband when he comes thru the door
  • homeschool
  • sit on the couch and rest for two hours a day while you lock the kids in their rooms
  • buy expensive organic things and woo products online.

Did I get that all right? What did I miss?

It's not just being fat.

Wives cannot put on more than 5 lbs over their wedding day weight. Because of course all godly brides are skinny.

LoriKen have opined commanded this many times.

Yeah. In her blog, they addressed a five or more pound weight gain in their daughters as being a sign of “sin.”

Which explains why Lori has worked so hard to lose those five pounds she says she's gained in the past year or so. She doesn't seem to understand that gaining a few pounds as an older woman is not a bad thing. Gaining a LOT might not be a good idea, but five or ten pounds? It's not a sin. It's normal, and it also helps keep one from looking gaunt and scrawny, especially if one is already very slim. Not to mention it helps keep one's hair from looking like straw, and one's skin from looking dried out.

By 'one' I mean you, Lori.🙄

I saw this on Twitter last night. In reading through a bit, I saw one commenter had written that Lori had been scrubbing her posts and that she had blocked this guy. Also, Ken has tried to defend her.

I find Twitter hard to navigate so I can’t really do a breakdown of all the comments. Still, this might be interesting to watch.

From Lori's Facebook today: The women who don’t love their husbands are blaspheming His Word. They are contentious and quarrelsome. They deny their husbands sexually. They manipulate and control them through their emotions and feelings by giving them the silent treatment, withholding sex, and whatever means they can think of in order to change their husbands and demand their own way.

I am older than Lori, and I get out much more than she does. I have friends both within and outside of the church. I know no woman who fits this description. How does Lori seemingly know so many? Maybe this is just a description of herself as she was/is.

Lori uses literary license a lot.  She makes things up to make her story sound good or better.  Like I'm 100 per cent certain that 100 per cent of all the female medical personel who have treated her have not sobbed on her boney shoulder telling her how much they wish they'd never gone to college.  There isn't a parade of thonged women prancing up and down her street. People are not stopping her at church begging for her wise and kind advice.  Her grandchildren do not say many of the things she quotes them as saying.  However, I am quite certain she does want to go to the beach and paddle bottoms because she's all pervy like that.
